Radecker and Company. This is no doubt the case referred to in paragraph 5 of the Colonial Secretary's letter of the 23rd September enclosed in

49524.

Reply that we understand that the brokers of this firm are being paid half their salaries by the liquidators, and that this case is receiving considera- tion with thegeneral question referred to above.

Sander Wieler and Company The relevant papers with regard to this firm cannot at present be found, (see, however, enclosure 1 in 40875) but I think we can safely say that Mr Backhouse is not carrying on Sander Wieler and Company's business but is carrying on an independent business on his own account and that

he has received no licence to use the firms old

trade-marks.

Wendt and Company.

Some of the relevant papers

regarding this firm are also missing. See, however,

enclosure 1 in 40875. I think, howers, that our last

has got rid of his information was that Mr Hannibal former agent

ر

G.C.Huygen in Canton

and has satisfied the

Government that he was carrying on business on independ-

ent lines. We might perhaps, 'so reply. We should also

state that he is carrying on business under supervision, see paragraph 3 of 40875.

Lamke and Rogge. See enclosure 3 in 40874.

It appears that Snowman though of German education and | possibly of German sympathies is a British subject, and

that he bought Lamke and Rogge's business in 1909.

We might reply in this sense (omitting reference to German education and sympathies.

Siemssen and Company. See 13483 and 40875.

Reply that Mr Manners is carrying on business on his own account under a license which contains the specific condition that he must not carry on business on behalf

of Siemssen and Company.

Ulderup and Schulter.

So far as I know we have

So reply

no detailed information about this firm.

adding that the question whether the assets of Jebsen

and Company could be made liable for the debts of Ulderup

and Schulter would appear to be a purely legal one, which

the local government is fully competent to decide.
